On December 8, 2024, the amended lawsuit was submitted, naming Jay-Z, whose real name is Shawn Carter, as a co-defendant in the case initially filed against Combs in October. The plaintiff, referred to as “Jane Doe,” claims that the assault occurred at an after-party following the MTV Video Music Awards in September 2000. The lawsuit alleges that both men sexually assaulted her after she consumed a drink that left her feeling disoriented.
The lawsuit details that during the incident, Jane Doe recognized several celebrities present at the party. She alleges that after being offered a drink by a waitress, she felt woozy and sought a place to lie down. The complaint states that Carter entered the room first and assaulted her, followed by Combs. Jane Doe reported that she managed to escape after striking Combs when he stepped back in surprise.
Tony Buzbee, representing Jane Doe, emphasized the seriousness of the allegations and stated that his client had never sought financial compensation from Jay-Z but only desired confidential mediation.
This lawsuit comes amid ongoing legal troubles for Combs, who is currently incarcerated on charges related to sex trafficking and racketeering. His criminal trial is set to begin on May 5, 2025. Both Combs and Jay-Z have denied all allegations against them.
