Gerard Butler, the Scottish actor known for his roles in action films such as “Olympus Has Fallen” and “300,” takes on a new challenge as he voices Santa Claus in the animated musical “The Night Before Christmas in Wonderland.” The film, which is set to be released on December 13, 2024, on Sky Cinema, is a unique adaptation that combines elements from the classic poem “Twas the Night Before Christmas” and Lewis Carroll’s “Alice in Wonderland”.
In this whimsical story, Butler’s character travels to Wonderland to deliver a gift but encounters difficulties with the Christmas-hating Queen of Hearts. Reflecting on his role, Butler stated, “This is a little fun animated movie, not be the thing I would normally do or be expected to do, but I loved the opportunity to do different performances in different arenas”. He expressed enthusiasm for the project, emphasizing its family-friendly nature: “The whole family are going to be smiling and I want to be a part of those things”.
The film features a star-studded cast including Emilia Clarke as the Queen of Hearts and Simone Ashley as Alice. Butler described the experience as challenging yet enjoyable, saying, “To be honest, the whole thing was kind of a challenge so you just throw all in the same box… I’ve got to sing these crazy songs. I’ve got to do a rap in which I cannot breathe. So there was a lot of challenges but fun ones”.
When asked about future Christmas projects, Butler hinted at potential sequels: “They are talking about doing a second one of this… I’m not sure if I’m allowed to say, but we already have a story of where does Santa go next… what I’ve heard so far, it sounds amazing”.
“The Night Before Christmas in Wonderland” promises to blend upbeat music with holiday spirit and whimsical storytelling, aiming to capture the hearts of families this festive season. The film’s release is highly anticipated as it showcases Butler’s versatility beyond his typical action hero persona.
